Angela Yau, M.S., CIP, CIT, CIG

Angela is an interpretive planner, trainer, and designer with a passion for discovering and sharing the stories of resources both natural and historical.  Angela is also a Registered Coach for the National Park System and Eppley Institute for Public Lands.

Angela attended the University of Florida and earned both her Bachelors and Masters of Science in the Wildlife Ecology and Conservation department.  She specialized in human dimensions and minored in botany.  For her master’s project, Angela developed a holistic planning model and then applied it to the nature park system in the city of Gainesville.

Angela worked for the City of Gainesville, Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs, Nature Operations Division for ten years, part time while attending school and full time after graduation. This experience involved every aspect of running a nature center as part of a regional system of parks that interpreted natural and cultural history.  Although Angela has a science background, her work on Morningside Nature Center’s 1870 Living History Farm forged a love of living history and a dedication to historical accuracy and authenticity while presenting meaningful programs that told the human story.  Angela gained experience interpreting cultural history of the Timucua and Spanish in La Florida as well.  Her experience with living history has been the source of her interests in historic textiles, soap making, and traditional music and dance.

Angela has extensive experience with every aspect of interpretation; planning, training, design, and delivery.  She has done event planning from special events to workshops and conferences.  Angela was the workshop chair for the Southeastern regional National Association for Interpretation (NAI) and Association for Living History, Farms, and Agricultural Museums (ALHFAM) joint workshop.  This work was rewarded with the Outstanding Service to Region 3 award from NAI.  In 2006, Angela was also awarded Employee of the Year for the City of Gainesville and the Florida Master Naturalist Instructor Achievement Award.

After completing the NAI Certified Interpretive Trainer and Certified Interpretive Planner courses and a family relocation to Maryland, Angela started Parchment and PCs Consulting to offer her experience and passion for interpretation to other sites around the world.
